Development / FIELD GUIDE

SaaS operations start with clear boundaries.

An internal admin interface often has more authority than the public product. Design the operating workflow around who may inspect, change, export, and recover application state.

Map the privileged actions

List the actions available to support, developers, operators, and account owners. Distinguish viewing a record from changing it or exporting a large dataset. Tie each action to a role and a meaningful record rather than granting universal access to anyone who can open the dashboard.

Keep tenant context explicit

Show which account or environment an operation targets. Validate that context on the server side of the actual application, not just in its interface. Review bulk actions particularly carefully because one mistaken target can affect many records at once.

Connect releases to ongoing work

Background jobs, external callbacks, and database changes can continue after a code deployment. Define retry behavior, approval boundaries, and recovery ownership. Keep a release record that helps operators relate a symptom to the relevant change without assuming timing alone proves causation.
